![]() There has long been speculation that suicide might be "contagious," in the sense that those whose lives have been touched by suicide may themselves become more likely to contemplate or even attempt it. Recent research on suicide trends among Canadian teens seems to support this notion. Nearly a quarter of the 8,000 teens surveyed had a schoolmate who had committed suicide, and regardless of whether the respondents had been personally acquainted with the deceased, they were significantly more likely to thereafter consider or attempt suicide themselves. Wearing ill-fitting shoes, especially those with narrow toe boxes and excessive heel height, is often cited as a cause of the condition, but new research suggests that bunions are in fact hereditary.
