There has long been speculation that suicide might be "contagious," in the sense that those whose lives have been touched by suicide may themselves become more likely to contemplate or even attempt it. Recent research on suicide trends among Canadian teens seems to support this notion. Nearly a quarter of the 8,000 teens surveyed had a schoolmate who had committed suicide, and regardless of whether the respondents had been personally acquainted with the deceased, they were significantly more likely to thereafter consider or attempt suicide themselves. A bunion is an unsightly and painful foot deformity in which the joint at the base of the big toe becomes abnormally enlarged, forcing the toe inward and compressing the other toes. Details are still emerging out of Oklahoma, where rescue and recovery efforts remain underway after a violent and sustained EF-5 tornado cut a 17-mile-long swath through suburbs south of Oklahoma City.
